Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will create their very own Christmas ornaments using simple craft techniques. They will learn about creativity, colors, and the joy of making something special for the holiday season.

Materials and Prep

  • Colored paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or crayons
  • String or ribbon (for hanging)
  • Glitter (optional)

Before starting the lesson, ensure that all materials are ready and accessible. Discuss with the student what types of ornaments they might like to create, such as stars, snowflakes, or Christmas trees.

Activities

  • Design Your Ornament: Let the student choose a shape for their ornament. They can draw it on colored paper and cut it out. Encourage them to think about what they want their ornament to look like.

  • Decorate with Color: Using markers, crayons, or glitter, the student can decorate their ornament. Discuss the colors they choose and why they like them.

  • Add a String: Help the student attach a piece of string or ribbon to their ornament. This will allow them to hang it up. Talk about where they would like to hang their new creation.

  • Show and Tell: Once the ornaments are finished, have a small presentation where the student can show their ornament and explain what it is and why they made it that way.

Talking Points

  • "What shape do you want your ornament to be? You can choose anything!"
  • "What colors do you love? Let's use those to make your ornament special!"
  • "How about we add some glitter? It will make your ornament sparkle!"
  • "Where will you hang your ornament? Maybe on the tree or in your room?"
  • "Can you tell me a story about your ornament? What does it mean to you?"
  • "Great job! You made something beautiful that can bring joy to others!"
