Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concepts of scooping and pouring liquids, enhancing their fine motor skills while exploring the properties of liquids through hands-on activities.

Materials and Prep

  • A small container filled with water (or any liquid that is safe to use)
  • Another container for pouring the liquid into
  • A scoop (like a small cup or a spoon)
  • A towel or cloth for spills

Before the lesson, ensure the area is covered with a towel to catch any spills. Make sure the liquid used is safe for the child to handle.

Activities

  • Scooping Fun:

Let the child use the scoop to take water from one container and move it to another. Encourage them to see how much they can scoop at once!

  • Pouring Practice:

Allow the child to pour the liquid from one container to another. Talk about how to tilt the container carefully to avoid spills.

  • Mixing Colors:

If using colored water, let the child pour different colors into one container and watch how they mix together, creating new colors!

  • Obstacle Course:

Create a simple obstacle course where the child has to scoop and pour the liquid without spilling it while moving around.

Talking Points

  • "Look how the water moves when you scoop it! Can you make a big splash?"
  • "When you pour, we have to be careful! Can you tilt the cup slowly?"
  • "What happens when we mix these two colors? Let's see if we can make a new one!"
  • "Wow! You did it! You poured the water without spilling! You're a great scooper!"
