Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a bracelet using materials related to Earth Science.

Materials and Prep

  • Elastic cord
  • Beads in various colors and shapes
  • Scissors
  • Reference materials on Earth Science (books, websites, etc.)

Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with different aspects of Earth Science that you can incorporate into the bracelet making process.

Activities

  1. Research Earth Science topics: Begin by exploring different Earth Science topics such as rocks, minerals, weather, or landforms. Use reference materials to gather information and select a topic that interests you the most.
  2. Choose bead colors and shapes: Based on your chosen Earth Science topic, select beads that represent different aspects of that topic. For example, if you chose rocks, you can use beads that resemble different types of rocks.
  3. Create a pattern: Plan a pattern for your bracelet using the selected beads. You can arrange them in a repeating sequence or create a more random pattern, depending on your preference.
  4. String the beads: Cut a piece of elastic cord that fits around your wrist comfortably. Start stringing the beads according to your chosen pattern. Make sure to leave enough space at the ends to tie the bracelet securely.
  5. Secure the bracelet: Once all the beads are threaded, tie the ends of the elastic cord together using a secure knot. Trim any excess cord if necessary.
  6. Reflect and share: Take a moment to reflect on your bracelet and the Earth Science topic it represents. Share your creation with others and explain the significance of each bead.
