Activities

  • Greeting Game: Start the lesson by learning and practicing basic Afrikaans greetings. The student can greet family members in Afrikaans and ask them to respond back. This will help reinforce the new vocabulary in a fun way!

  • History Timeline Creation: Create a simple timeline of important events in South African history. The student can draw pictures and write short descriptions in both English and Afrikaans. This will help them connect language with historical events.

  • Story Time: Read a short story or biography about a famous South African figure, such as Nelson Mandela or Desmond Tutu. Discuss their contributions to history and encourage the student to summarize the story in Afrikaans.
