Objective

By the end of this 9-month STEAM curriculum, Phoenix will explore various subjects including science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through hands-on projects and activities. He will develop critical thinking skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities while having fun learning.

Materials and Prep

  • Basic art supplies (paper, markers, crayons, glue, scissors)
  • Science experiment kits (like baking soda and vinegar for volcanoes)
  • Building materials (like LEGO, cardboard, and tape)
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research and coding games
  • Outdoor space for nature exploration
  • Musical instruments (if available) or access to music apps
  • Books and resources on various topics (science, art, technology)

Activities

  • Science Experiments: Each week, conduct a different science experiment. For example, create a volcano using baking soda and vinegar. Discuss the chemical reaction and how it works.

  • LEGO Engineering Challenges: Set up weekly building challenges using LEGO. For example, build a bridge that can hold the weight of a toy car. This will help with engineering skills and creativity.

  • Art Projects: Explore different art techniques each month. One month could focus on painting, while another could be about sculpture. Let Phoenix express himself freely!

  • Nature Walks: Go on nature walks to observe and collect items like leaves and rocks. Use these items for art projects or science observations.

  • Music Creation: Encourage Phoenix to create his own songs using simple instruments or music apps. Discuss rhythm and melody while having fun composing.

  • Math Games: Use everyday objects for math games. For example, use LEGO blocks to learn addition and subtraction by counting and combining blocks.

Talking Points

  • "What do you think will happen when we mix these two ingredients? Let's find out!"
  • "Can you think of a way to make your bridge stronger? What materials will you use?"
  • "How does this art project make you feel? What colors do you want to use?"
  • "What interesting things did you see on our nature walk? Can you draw one?"
  • "What sounds do you want to include in your song? How can we make it fun?"
  • "If I have 5 LEGO blocks and I add 3 more, how many do I have now? Let's count together!"
