Objective
The objective of this lesson is to practice arithmetic skills while playing Uno, a fun and popular card game. By the end of the lesson, you will be able to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division operations using the numbers on the Uno cards.
Materials and Prep
- Uno cards
- Pen or pencil
- Blank paper or notebook
Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Activities
- Shuffle the Uno cards and deal 7 cards to each player.
- Choose a player to start the game.
- On your turn, play a card that matches the color or number of the top card on the discard pile.
- If you cannot play a card, draw one card from the deck and skip your turn.
- During the game, whenever a player plays a number card, the other players must quickly perform a math operation using the number on the card and the number on the top card of the discard pile.
- For example, if the top card is a 5 and a player plays a 3, the other players must quickly calculate 5 + 3 = 8.
- The first player to correctly shout out the answer gets to play their card next.
- Continue playing until one player has no more cards left. That player is the winner!
