Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basic elements of poetry, create their own simple poem, and express their feelings and ideas through words in a fun and imaginative way.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Colored pencils or crayons
- A quiet space for writing
- Time to think about feelings and nature
Before the lesson, think about some of your favorite things, like animals, colors, or places. This will help you when creating your poem!
Activities
-
Poetry Reading: Start the lesson by reading a simple, fun poem together. Discuss what makes it special, like the rhythm and the feelings it shares.
-
Feelings and Nature Brainstorm: Take a few minutes to think about what makes you happy, sad, or excited. Write down words that describe these feelings and things in nature that you love, like flowers, trees, or animals.
-
Creating Your Poem: Using the words from your brainstorming, create a simple poem. It can be silly, happy, or even about your favorite animal! Remember, poems can rhyme or not rhyme.
-
Poem Illustration: After writing your poem, draw a picture that goes along with it. This can be anything that helps tell the story of your poem!
-
Sharing Time: Share your poem and drawing with someone in your family. You can read it out loud and show them your artwork!
