Objective
By the end of this lesson, S will have a deeper understanding of the Dodo bird, including its habitat, diet, and reasons for extinction. S will also develop skills in research, creativity, and critical thinking through engaging activities.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or markers
- Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)
- Notebook for jotting down notes
- Timer or stopwatch (for timed activities)
Before the lesson, it may be helpful to have an introductory video or article about the Dodo bird ready for S to explore.
Activities
-
Dodo Research Project:
S will spend time researching the Dodo bird, focusing on its physical characteristics, habitat, diet, and reasons for extinction. S can use online resources or books if available. After the research, S will create a mini-poster summarizing the findings.
-
Dodo Diorama:
Using paper and colored pencils, S will create a diorama that represents the Dodo's natural habitat. This can include elements like trees, plants, and other animals that lived in the same area.
-
Dodo Storytime:
S will write a short story from the perspective of a Dodo bird. This creative writing activity will encourage S to imagine what life was like for the Dodo before it went extinct.
-
Dodo Debate:
Engage in a friendly debate about the importance of protecting endangered species today. S can take a stance on why we should or should not focus on preserving animals like the Dodo.
