Objective

By the end of this lesson, Kareem will understand the importance of habits in daily life, how they are formed, and how positive habits can lead to a healthier and happier lifestyle. Kareem will also identify some of his own habits and explore ways to improve them.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook or paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • Timer (can use a phone or clock)
  • Colorful markers or crayons (optional)

Before starting the lesson, it's helpful to think about some habits you currently have, both good and bad. This will make the activities more personal and engaging!

Activities

  • Habit Tracker Creation

Kareem will create a habit tracker in his notebook. He will list three habits he wants to improve or start. Each day, he will mark off whether he accomplished them. This visual representation will help him see his progress over time.

  • 30-Day Habit Challenge

Kareem will choose one positive habit to focus on for the next 30 days. He will set a specific goal, like drinking more water or reading for 20 minutes each day. This challenge will encourage him to commit to a new routine.

  • Discussion and Reflection

At the end of the lesson, Kareem will reflect on what he learned about habits. He can write down how he feels about his current habits and what changes he wants to make in the future.

Talking Points

  • "Habits are like little routines we do every day, sometimes without even thinking about them!"
  • "Did you know that it takes about 21 days to form a new habit? That's why we're going to try a 30-day challenge!"
  • "Think about a habit you want to change. What would be a better choice? For example, instead of snacking on chips, you could try eating fruit!"
  • "Habits can be good or bad. What are some good habits you already have? Like brushing your teeth or reading before bed?"
  • "We can track our habits to see how we're doing. It’s like a game where you get points for doing well!"
  • "Remember, it’s okay to have setbacks. What matters is that you keep trying to improve!"
