Objective

By the end of this lesson, Abigail will have a deeper understanding of the themes, characters, and storylines in the Legend of Zelda series. She will also develop her creativity and critical thinking skills through engaging activities inspired by the game.

Materials and Prep

  • Pencil and paper for drawing and writing
  • Access to a computer or tablet (optional for research)
  • Time to play a Zelda game or review game lore (if available)
  • A quiet space to work and think creatively

Before the lesson, it would be helpful for Abigail to have some familiarity with the Legend of Zelda series, including its main characters like Link, Zelda, and Ganon, as well as basic plot points from her favorite game.

Activities

  • Character Exploration:

Abigail will choose her favorite character from the Legend of Zelda series and create a character profile. This profile will include the character's background, abilities, and role in the story. She can even draw the character to make it visually appealing!

  • Story Rewrite:

Abigail will select a key event from a Zelda game and rewrite it from a different character's perspective. This will help her understand different viewpoints and develop her storytelling skills.

  • Design Your Own Dungeon:

Using her imagination, Abigail will design a new dungeon for Link to explore. She will sketch the layout, describe the challenges inside, and create a unique boss character that Link must defeat to complete the dungeon.

  • Treasure Hunt:

Abigail will create a treasure hunt around her home, inspired by the questing elements of the game. She can write clues that lead to the next location, mimicking the adventure of finding items in Zelda.

Talking Points

  • "What do you think makes Link such a compelling hero in the series?"
  • "How do you feel the different games in the series represent the idea of courage, wisdom, and power?"
  • "Can you think of any real-life situations where teamwork is important, similar to how Link and Zelda work together?"
  • "What role do you think the music plays in creating the atmosphere of the game?"
  • "Why do you think the Legend of Zelda series has remained popular for so many years?"
