Objective
By the end of this lesson, RR will be able to understand the basic elements of persuasive text and create their own persuasive piece on a topic they care about. This will help them express their opinions and convince others effectively.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or markers
- A timer (optional, can use a clock)
- A comfortable space to write and brainstorm
Before the lesson, think about a few topics that RR is passionate about. This could be anything from their favorite snack to a favorite toy. Prepare to discuss why these topics are important to them.
Activities
-
Brainstorming Session:
Start with a fun brainstorming session where RR can list topics they feel strongly about. Encourage them to think of reasons why someone should agree with their opinion.
-
Persuasive Poster Creation:
RR will create a colorful poster that presents their argument. They can use drawings, bullet points, and catchy phrases to make their case more compelling.
-
Persuasive Speech:
RR will prepare a short speech to present their argument to you. Set a timer for 1-2 minutes and encourage them to use their poster as a guide.
-
Peer Review:
After the speech, have a discussion about what RR did well and what could be improved. This will help them understand how to refine their persuasive skills.
