Objective
By the end of this lesson, Matilda will have a better understanding of the United States, including its geography, symbols, and important historical figures. She will be able to identify key states on a map, recognize the national flag, and learn about a few famous Americans who helped shape the country.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or crayons
- A blank map of the United States (can be drawn by Matilda)
- Access to a list of important U.S. symbols (like the flag, the bald eagle, etc.)
- Names of a few famous historical figures (like George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., and Rosa Parks)
Before the lesson, prepare a simple outline of the United States map and print or draw it for Matilda to color. Make sure to have the names of symbols and historical figures ready for discussion.

Map Coloring: Matilda will color a blank map of the United States. She can use different colors to represent different regions and label each state. This will help her learn where states are located.
-
Flag Craft: Using paper and colored pencils, Matilda will create her own version of the American flag. She can learn about the meaning of the colors and stars while designing her flag.
-
Famous Americans Storytime: Matilda will choose one or two historical figures from the list and learn a bit about their lives. She can then draw a picture of them and write a sentence about what they did for the country.
