Objective
By the end of this lesson, AJ will understand that winter is one of the four seasons, recognize some characteristics of winter, and have fun learning through engaging activities.
Materials and Prep
- Warm clothing (like a scarf or hat) for dress-up
- Paper and crayons for drawing
- Cotton balls or white paper to represent snow
- Space to play and move around
Before the lesson, make sure to explain to AJ what seasons are and that winter is one of them. You can also discuss what we wear in winter and what the weather is like.
Activities
- Dress for Winter: Have AJ dress up in warm clothes like a scarf, hat, and mittens. Talk about how these clothes keep us warm. You can say, "Look at you! You're ready for winter!"
- Winter Drawing: Give AJ paper and crayons to draw a winter scene. Encourage him to draw snowflakes, snowmen, or winter trees. You might say, "What do you see in winter? Let's draw it!"
- Snowball Toss: Use cotton balls and a basket. Have AJ toss the cotton balls into the basket, pretending they are snowballs. Cheer him on with, "Great throw! You're a snowball champion!"
- Winter Story Time: Read a short story about winter or make up a fun winter tale together. Ask AJ questions like, "What do you think happens next?" to keep him engaged.
Talking Points
- "Winter is when it gets really cold, and sometimes we see snow!"
- "In winter, we wear warm clothes to keep cozy!"
- "Look outside! What do you see? Is it cold? Is there snow?"
- "Winter is one of the four seasons. Can you name the others?"
