Objective

By the end of this lesson, Agnes and Ryla will understand that winter is one of the four seasons and will be able to identify some characteristics of winter through fun activities and exploration.

Materials and Prep

  • Warm clothes (hats, mittens, scarves)
  • Blankets or soft toys for a cozy winter feel
  • White paper or a drawing surface
  • Crayons or markers
  • Snowflake cutouts (can be drawn on paper)

Before the lesson, ensure the area is safe and comfortable for the activities. It might be helpful to explain what winter is in simple terms and show them the clothes we wear during this season.

Activities

  • Winter Dress-Up:

Let Agnes and Ryla dress up in warm clothes. Talk about each item as they put it on, emphasizing how we wear these things in winter to stay warm.

  • Cozy Blanket Time:

Wrap up in blankets and pretend to be snug in a warm house during winter. You can read a winter-themed story or sing winter songs together.

  • Snowflake Art:

Using white paper, let them draw or color snowflakes. Encourage them to make big and small snowflakes, discussing how they look different.

  • Winter Walk:

If possible, take a short walk outside. Point out any signs of winter, like bare trees or cold air, and talk about how nature changes in winter.

Talking Points

  • "Look at our warm clothes! We wear these in winter to keep cozy!"
  • "Feel how soft this blanket is! It makes us feel warm, just like in winter!"
  • "Let's make some snowflakes! Snowflakes are white and fall from the sky in winter!"
  • "Can you see the trees? They look different in winter because they don't have many leaves!"
