Objective

By the end of this lesson, Anthony will understand the rules and expectations of homeschooling, how to complete his lessons each day with effort and focus, and the reward system in place for his achievements.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil
  • Star stickers
  • A reward chart (can be drawn on paper)
  • A fun reward (like a small toy or extra playtime)

Before the lesson, make sure to set up a comfortable learning space free from distractions. Prepare the reward chart with spaces for each day of the week where Anthony can place his star stickers.

Activities

  • Introduction to Homeschooling

    Start with a fun discussion about what homeschooling means. Ask Anthony what he thinks about learning at home and share some exciting things he will learn this year.

  • Creating the Rules

    Together, brainstorm and write down 3-5 simple rules for homeschooling. Make it fun by using colorful markers or crayons to decorate the rules. Examples might include: "Be kind," "Try your best," and "Ask for help when needed."

  • Daily Lessons Overview

    Explain how each day will have lessons and that he needs to focus and put in effort. Use a fun chart to show what subjects he will learn each day.

  • Star Sticker Reward System

    Introduce the star sticker system. Explain that for each day he completes his lessons, he will earn a star sticker. If he earns stars every day for a week, he will get a special reward!

  • Practice Focusing

    Do a short activity where Anthony practices focusing. This could be a fun game like "Simon Says" or a short story reading where he has to listen carefully to answer questions afterward.
