By the end of this lesson, Natalie will have a better understanding of world geography, including continents, countries, and key geographical features. She will be able to identify major locations on a world map and discuss their significance.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank world map (drawn or printed)
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Notebook and pen for notes
  • Access to a globe or a digital map (if available)
  • Information about different countries (can be sourced from memory or general knowledge)

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the continents and some interesting facts about different countries to facilitate discussion.

Activities

  • Map Coloring:

Natalie will color in the continents on her blank world map using different colors for each continent. This will help her visualize the size and location of each continent.

  • Country Fact Cards:

Natalie will create fact cards for five different countries. Each card will include the country's name, capital, population, and one interesting fact. This activity will enhance her memory and understanding of global diversity.

  • Geography Quiz:

After completing the map and fact cards, Natalie will quiz herself by pointing to a country on the map and recalling its capital and one fact. This will reinforce her learning and boost her confidence.

  • World Geography Game:

Using her fact cards, Natalie can play a game where she draws a card and has to locate the country on the map. This will make the learning process interactive and fun.
