Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jeremahli will learn about Indigenous Australian culture, including their art, music, and history. He will create his own piece of Indigenous-inspired art and understand the importance of storytelling in their traditions.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons or colored pencils
  • Access to a quiet space for storytelling and art
  • Knowledge about Indigenous Australian cultures, including their art and music

Activities

  • Art Creation: Jeremahli will create his own piece of art inspired by Indigenous Australian patterns and symbols. He will use crayons or colored pencils to draw on paper, focusing on using bright colors and repeating patterns.
  • Storytelling Time: Together, we will read a simple Indigenous Australian story or fable. After reading, Jeremahli can share his favorite part of the story and what he thinks it means.
  • Music and Dance: We will listen to traditional Indigenous Australian music. Jeremahli can dance freely to the rhythm and express how the music makes him feel. We can also talk about the instruments used in the music.
  • Discussion: At the end of the activities, we will sit down and talk about what Jeremahli learned today. He can share his thoughts and feelings about the art, stories, and music.
