Objective
By the end of this lesson, Jeremahli will learn about the rich culture and history of Indigenous Australia, including their connection to the land, traditional stories, and some of the unique animals that are important to their culture.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or colored pencils
- A comfortable space for storytelling and activities
- A little knowledge about Indigenous Australian culture, such as their connection to nature and storytelling traditions
Activities
-
Story Time:
Read a traditional Indigenous Australian story, such as "How the Kangaroo Got Its Tail." After reading, discuss what the story means and what animals are mentioned.
-
Animal Art:
Jeremahli can draw his favorite Australian animal, like a kangaroo or koala. Encourage him to think about why this animal is important to Indigenous culture.
-
Nature Walk:
If possible, take a short walk outside and talk about the plants and animals you see. Discuss how Indigenous Australians respect and care for nature.
-
Make a Dreamtime Story:
Help Jeremahli create his own short Dreamtime story. He can think of a character (like an animal) and what adventure they might have.
