Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jeremahli will be able to identify and describe at least three constellations, understand what constellations are, and create his own constellation drawing using his imagination.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Dark room or a blanket to create a "tent" for a cozy atmosphere
  • Knowledge of a few popular constellations (like Orion, Ursa Major, and Cassiopeia)

Activities

  • Storytime Under the Stars:

Set up a cozy space with blankets and dim lights. Share a short story about constellations and how they were named. This will spark Jeremahli's imagination and curiosity about the night sky.

  • Constellation Hunt:

Go outside or use a flashlight to create stars on the wall. Ask Jeremahli to pick a constellation he likes and try to recreate it with the flashlight or by drawing it on paper.

  • Design Your Own Constellation:

Encourage Jeremahli to create his own constellation using dots on paper. He can connect them in any way he likes and give it a fun name and story.

Talking Points

  • "Did you know that constellations are like a map in the sky? They help us find our way!"
  • "Each constellation has its own story. Some are named after heroes, animals, or even mythical creatures!"
  • "Look at the stars! Can you see any shapes? Those are constellations!"
  • "You can make your own constellation! Just connect the dots and tell a story about it!"
  • "Orion is one of the most famous constellations. Can you find the three stars that make his belt?"
  • "What do you think your constellation would look like? What story would it tell?"
