By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and use basic English grammar rules related to coins in a piggy toy.

Materials and Prep

  • A piggy toy with coins
  • A whiteboard or a piece of paper
  • A marker or a pen

Activities

  1. Introduce the piggy toy and the coins inside.

Show the piggy toy to the student and explain that it contains different coins. Ask the student to name the coins they see and discuss their values.

  2. Grammar Sorting Game

Write the following sentences on the whiteboard or paper:

    • "I have a penny."
    • "You have a dime."
    • "He has a nickel."
    • "She has a quarter."

Ask the student to identify the subject, verb, and object in each sentence. Help them understand the basic sentence structure and how to use the correct pronouns.

  3. Create Your Own Sentence

Encourage the student to create their own sentences using the piggy toy and the coins. For example, "The piggy toy has five pennies." or "I found a quarter in the piggy toy."

Write down their sentences and discuss any grammar mistakes or improvements that can be made.
