Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a foundational understanding of key psychological concepts, including basic theories of personality, the importance of mental health, and the role of emotions in behavior. The student will also engage in self-reflection to better understand their own thoughts and feelings.

Materials and Prep

  • A notebook or journal for writing reflections
  • A pen or pencil
  • Access to a comfortable space for discussion and activities
  • Basic knowledge of psychological terms such as "emotion," "behavior," and "personality" (optional, but helpful)

Activities

  • Personality Quiz: Create a simple personality quiz using questions about preferences, habits, and reactions in different situations. Have the student answer the questions and reflect on the results. Discuss how different personality traits can affect behavior.
  • Emotion Wheel: Draw or create an emotion wheel, categorizing different emotions. Ask the student to identify times when they've felt these emotions and how they reacted. This will help them understand the complexity of emotions.
  • Role-Playing Scenarios: Create role-playing scenarios where the student acts out different psychological situations (e.g., conflict resolution, expressing emotions). Discuss how different approaches can lead to different outcomes.
  • Mindfulness Exercise: Conduct a short mindfulness exercise, such as deep breathing or guided visualization. Afterward, discuss how mindfulness can impact mental health and emotional regulation.
