Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will gain an understanding of the various elements that make up a farm park, including the types of animals, plants, and farming techniques. The student will also be able to identify the importance of sustainable farming practices and the role of farm parks in community education.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pencil for notes and drawings
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (if applicable)
  • Outdoor space for activities (backyard, park, etc.)
  • Optional: Camera or smartphone to take pictures

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with local farm parks and their offerings. If possible, plan a visit to a nearby farm park to enhance the learning experience.

Activities

  • Farm Animal Exploration

Take a virtual tour of a farm park or visit one in person. Observe and note down different animals you see, their habitats, and behaviors. If you have access to a camera, take pictures to create a photo journal.

  • Plant Life Cycle Project

Choose a plant commonly found on farms (like corn or tomatoes) and research its life cycle. Create a visual representation (drawing or diagram) of the stages from seed to harvest.

  • Sustainable Farming Discussion

Research what sustainable farming means and how farm parks implement these practices. Write a short essay or create a presentation on the importance of sustainability in farming.

  • Farm Park Role Play

Create a mini farm park in your backyard or living room. Use household items as props (like stuffed animals for livestock) and role-play different farm activities like feeding animals or planting seeds.
