Objective

By the end of this lesson, David will learn about different types of plants, flowers, and trees found in botanical gardens. He will also develop his observation skills and express his thoughts about nature.

Materials and Prep

  • A comfortable outdoor space or garden area
  • David's favorite snacks for a picnic
  • Water to stay hydrated
  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
  • Optional: A small notebook and crayons for drawing

Before the lesson, make sure to check the weather and choose a nice day for exploring outside. Talk to David about the types of plants he might see!

Activities

  • Nature Walk: Take David on a short walk around the garden or a nearby park. Encourage him to look closely at the plants, flowers, and trees. Ask him to point out different colors and shapes.

  • Flower Hunt: Create a fun game where David has to find flowers of different colors. When he finds a flower, he can say its color out loud and even do a little dance!

  • Picnic Time: After the walk, set up a little picnic with his favorite snacks. While enjoying the food, talk about the plants he saw and which ones he liked the most.

  • Drawing Time: If you have a notebook and crayons, encourage David to draw his favorite plant or flower from the day. This will help him express what he learned through art!

Talking Points

  • "Look at all the different colors of flowers! Can you find a red one?"
  • "Do you see how tall that tree is? Trees can be very big!"
  • "What do you think this flower smells like? Let's take a sniff!"
  • "Can you tell me which plant is your favorite? Why do you like it?"
  • "Let’s count how many different types of leaves we can find!"
