Objective
By the end of this lesson, David will be able to identify some basic stars and planets in the night sky and express excitement about stargazing.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson, just a clear night and a cozy spot outside!
- Make sure the area is safe and comfortable for sitting or lying down.
- Be prepared to point out stars and planets, and share fun facts about them.
Activities
-
Star Spotting: Take David outside to look at the night sky. Point out any visible stars and say their names. Encourage him to find as many stars as he can!
-
Star Shapes: Lay on a blanket and look at the stars. Ask David to imagine shapes he sees in the stars. For example, “Can you see a triangle or a big dipper?”
-
Planet Fun: Talk about the planets and how they are different from stars. Say, “Look, that bright one is a planet! It doesn’t twinkle like the stars!”
Talking Points
- “Look up, David! Do you see all those twinkling lights? Those are stars!”
- “Some stars are very far away, and some are closer to us. Isn’t that amazing?”
- “The bright ones we see sometimes are planets! Planets are like big balls in space.”
- “Did you know that we can see different stars and planets in different seasons? Let’s remember what we see tonight!”
- “Stargazing is like a treasure hunt! Let’s see what we can find in the sky!”
