Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or pen

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing the concept of descriptive writing with the student. Explain that descriptive writing uses sensory details and vivid language to paint a picture in the reader's mind.

  2. Ask the student to think about their favorite pizza and what makes it special. Have them write down a list of sensory details they associate with that pizza, such as the smell, taste, texture, and appearance.

  3. Next, instruct the student to use their list of sensory details to write a descriptive paragraph about their favorite pizza. Encourage them to be creative and use vivid language to bring their pizza to life on paper.

  4. Once the student has finished writing, have them read their paragraph aloud. Encourage them to revise and edit their writing as necessary to improve clarity and coherence.

  5. Finally, discuss the importance of descriptive writing and how it can engage and captivate readers. Ask the student to reflect on their own experience of writing the descriptive paragraph and how it helped them appreciate the power of language.
