Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to confidently copy cursive letters on copied paper sheets, improving their handwriting skills and familiarity with cursive writing.

Materials and Prep

  • Copied paper sheets with cursive letters for tracing
  • Pencil or erasable pen for writing
  • A comfortable writing space
  • Optional: A fun sticker or stamp for completed work

Before the lesson, ensure that the copied paper sheets are clear and easy to read. Set up a quiet and comfortable writing area to help the student focus.

Activities

  • Letter Tracing:

Start with tracing individual cursive letters. The student will follow the lines on the copied paper, practicing how to form each letter correctly.

  • Word Copying:

Once the student feels comfortable with individual letters, move on to copying simple words. Encourage them to say the word out loud as they write it to reinforce letter sounds.

  • Fun Sentences:

Introduce short, fun sentences for the student to copy. Choose sentences that include their favorite things, making it more engaging and enjoyable.

  • Creative Cursive:

Let the student create their own cursive letters by adding fun swirls or decorations to their writing. This encourages creativity while practicing their skills.
