Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and use key vocabulary related to curriculum, identify different subjects in their learning journey, and create a simple personal curriculum plan that reflects their interests and goals.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • Colored markers or crayons
  • Timer (optional)
  • Blank curriculum template (can be drawn on paper)

Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with the different subjects in a typical curriculum, such as Math, Science, English, History, and Art. Think about what subjects the student enjoys and what they might want to learn more about.

Activities

  • Curriculum Scavenger Hunt

    Make a list of different subjects and learning activities. Hide clues around the house that lead to each subject. For example, a clue for Science could lead to the kitchen where they can find a science experiment with baking soda and vinegar!

  • Create Your Own Curriculum

    Using the blank curriculum template, have the student fill in subjects they want to learn about. Encourage them to think about their hobbies and interests. They can draw pictures or use colored markers to make it colorful and fun!

  • Subject Charades

    Play a game of charades where the student acts out different subjects without using words, while you guess what they are. This will help them think about the subjects in a fun and engaging way!

  • Curriculum Story Time

    Have the student create a short story that includes characters from different subjects. For example, a Math wizard, a Science fairy, and an English knight could go on an adventure together. This will help them see how subjects can be connected.
