Objective

By the end of this lesson, Pearl will have a better understanding of the significance of Lunar New Year, its traditions, and customs celebrated in 2025. She will be able to share interesting facts and participate in related activities with her family and friends.

Materials and Prep

  • Printable templates for crafts (like lanterns or envelopes)
  • A calendar to mark Lunar New Year date (February 10, 2025)

Before the lesson, make sure Pearl knows how to use the computer or tablet for research purposes. It's also helpful to have some background knowledge about Lunar New Year to guide her research.

Activities

  • Research Fun Facts:

    Pearl will use the computer or tablet to find interesting facts about Lunar New Year. She can look for information on its history, how it's celebrated in different countries, and what special foods are eaten.

  • Create a Lunar New Year Card:

    Pearl will design a colorful card to wish her friends and family a Happy Lunar New Year. She can include symbols like lanterns, dragons, or the zodiac animal of 2025, which is the Snake.

  • Make a Paper Lantern:

    Pearl will follow a simple template to create a paper lantern. This is a traditional decoration for Lunar New Year, and she can hang it in her room to celebrate!

  • Cook a Simple Dish:

    If possible, Pearl can help prepare a simple dish that is commonly enjoyed during Lunar New Year, such as dumplings or rice cakes. This will give her a taste of the culture!
