Objective

By the end of this lesson, Ursula will have learned how to create a basic Minecraft world, understand the importance of resource management, and develop her creativity through building and exploration in the game.

Materials and Prep

  • Minecraft (Java or Bedrock Edition)
  • A computer or gaming console to play Minecraft
  • A notebook and pencil for jotting down ideas and plans
  • A timer for timed challenges

Before the lesson, ensure that Minecraft is installed and running smoothly. Familiarize yourself with the basic controls and settings of the game.

Activities

  • World Creation Challenge:

Ursula will create her own Minecraft world, choosing between Survival and Creative modes. She can decide on a theme for her world, such as a fantasy land, a modern city, or a futuristic space station.

  • Resource Gathering Expedition:

In this activity, Ursula will go on a resource-gathering mission. She will explore her world to collect essential materials like wood, stone, and food. This will help her understand the importance of resource management.

  • Building a Dream House:

Using the resources collected, Ursula will design and build her dream house. She can experiment with different blocks and layouts, focusing on creativity and functionality.

  • Timed Building Challenge:

For a fun twist, set a timer for 10-15 minutes and challenge Ursula to build a specific structure (like a castle or a bridge) within that time. This will enhance her quick-thinking and decision-making skills.
