Objective
By the end of this lesson, Minaya will understand the importance of campfires in history, how they were used by pioneers and early settlers, and how they created a sense of community through stories and sharing around the fire.
Materials and Prep
- None required for this lesson.
- Prepare a cozy space to sit, as if around a campfire. You can use pillows or blankets to create a comfy spot.
- Think of a few stories from history that involve campfires, pioneers, or early settlers to share during the lesson.
Activities
-
Yarning Circle:
Minaya can sit in a circle with you and take turns sharing stories. You can start by telling a story about a pioneer who used a campfire to cook food or tell stories at night.
-
Imaginative Campfire:
Have Minaya close her eyes and imagine she is sitting by a campfire. Ask her to describe what she sees, hears, and feels. This will help her connect to the experience of campfires in history.
-
Storytelling Time:
Encourage Minaya to create her own story involving a campfire, a pioneer, and an adventure. She can share this story with you, just like pioneers did around their campfires.
