Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a deeper understanding of Ancient Egypt, including its culture, religion, and significant historical figures. The student will engage in creative activities that reinforce their knowledge through exploration and imagination.

Materials and Prep

  • Pencil and paper for note-taking and drawing
  • Colored pencils or markers for art activities
  • A timer (optional, for timed activities)
  • Access to a quiet space for focused learning

Before the lesson, it is helpful to have a brief overview of Ancient Egypt, including key aspects such as the Nile River, pyramids, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics. If possible, prepare some interesting facts to share during the lesson.

Activities

  • Hieroglyphic Writing: The student will learn about hieroglyphics and create their own name using symbols. They can research what each symbol means and decorate their paper with drawings of the symbols.
  • Pyramid Building Challenge: Using household items (like blocks or books), the student will attempt to build a pyramid. They can research the engineering techniques used by the Egyptians and reflect on what worked and what didn’t.
  • Pharaoh Profile: The student will choose a famous pharaoh (like Tutankhamun or Ramses II) and create a profile poster. This will include key facts about their reign, accomplishments, and interesting anecdotes.
  • Ancient Egyptian Art: The student will explore Ancient Egyptian art styles and create their own artwork inspired by the themes and colors used in that era. They can draw or paint a scene depicting daily life in Ancient Egypt.
