Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will create a personalized "My First Day of Homeschool 2025" information worksheet that reflects their thoughts, feelings, and expectations about starting their homeschooling journey. This will help them articulate their goals and interests as they embark on this new adventure.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank sheets of paper
  • Pens, pencils, or markers
  • Ruler (optional, for neat lines)
  • Coloring supplies (crayons, colored pencils, etc.)
  • Timer (optional, for timed activities)

Before starting the lesson, it’s helpful to encourage the student to think about what they are excited or nervous about regarding homeschooling. This will make the worksheet more meaningful.

Activities

  • Brainstorming Session:

Begin with a brainstorming session where the student lists all the things they expect or want to learn in their homeschool year. Encourage them to think about subjects, activities, and personal goals.

  • Designing the Worksheet:

Guide the student in creating their worksheet layout. They can include sections for their name, date, favorite subjects, goals, and any fun drawings that represent their interests.

  • Reflection Time:

After completing the worksheet, have the student reflect on what they wrote. Ask them to share their thoughts about their goals and what they are looking forward to in their homeschooling journey.

  • Sharing Session:

Encourage the student to present their worksheet to a family member or friend. This will help them practice their communication skills and gain confidence in sharing their ideas.

  • "What are you most excited about starting your homeschool journey?"
  • "Think about what subjects you love. How can we include those in your learning?"
