Objective
By the end of this lesson, Tempest will be able to demonstrate improved fine motor skills through fun and engaging activities that require strength and control, helping her perform complex tasks with greater ease.
Materials and Prep
- None required for this lesson.
- Be prepared to encourage and assist Tempest as needed.
- Make sure the environment is safe and free from hazards.
Activities
-
Animal Walks: Have Tempest imitate different animals walking across the room. For example, walking like a bear on all fours or hopping like a frog. This activity helps develop strength and control in her arms and legs.
-
Balloon Toss: Inflate a balloon and encourage Tempest to toss it in the air, trying to catch it before it hits the ground. This helps improve her hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
-
Playdough Fun: If playdough is available, encourage Tempest to roll, squish, and mold the dough into different shapes. This strengthens her hand muscles and enhances her dexterity.
-
Obstacle Course: Set up a simple obstacle course using furniture or toys. Have Tempest crawl under tables, hop over pillows, and balance on a line made with tape. This activity promotes control and coordination.
Talking Points
- "Look at how strong you are when you walk like a bear! Can you walk even slower?"
- "Wow! You caught the balloon! Let’s see if you can catch it three times in a row!"
- "Can you make a snake with the playdough? Let’s see how long you can make it!"
- "You did it! You crawled under the table like a tiny mouse! What a great job!"
