Objective

By the end of this lesson, Tempest will be able to dress herself with minimal assistance, clean up her play area, and use utensils effectively during snack time. She will also learn simple strategies for resolving conflicts with peers.

Materials and Prep

  • Different clothing items (e.g., shirts, pants, shoes) for dressing practice
  • Toys or play items for cleanup activity
  • Utensils (spoon and fork) and soft food items (e.g., mashed bananas, yogurt) for snack time
  • A small area for role-playing conflict resolution scenarios (optional)

Before the lesson, ensure that the area is safe and free of distractions. Prepare the food items in advance and set up the play area for easy cleanup.

Activities

  • Dressing Up Game:

Encourage Tempest to choose her clothes from a selection. Turn it into a game by timing her or making it a fun race against a timer. Celebrate her efforts and encourage her to try putting on each item by herself.

  • Cleanup Time:

After playing, sing a cleanup song together while picking up toys. Make it fun by pretending to be different animals while cleaning (e.g., hopping like a bunny or crawling like a bear).

  • Snack Time Challenge:

Set up a snack time where Tempest can practice using a spoon and fork with soft foods. Encourage her to serve herself and praise her for being independent and using the utensils correctly.

  • Conflict Resolution Role Play:

Use dolls or stuffed animals to act out simple conflict scenarios (e.g., sharing toys). Ask Tempest how the characters can solve their problems and encourage her to suggest solutions.

Talking Points

  • "Look at you! You’re putting on your clothes all by yourself! Can you show me how you do it?"
  • "Let’s sing our cleanup song! What animal do you want to be while we pick up?"
  • "Wow, you used your spoon so well! Can you show me how you scoop the food?"
  • "If your toy is taken, what can you say to your friend? How can we share?"
