Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about fall using sensory details.
Materials and Prep
- Pencil
- Blank paper
- Access to a window or outdoor space with fall foliage (optional)
Activities
- Brainstorming: Start by discussing what comes to mind when you think of fall. Talk about the sights, smells, sounds, tastes, and textures associated with this season. Encourage the student to close their eyes and imagine being in a fall setting.
- Sensory Word List: Provide the student with a sensory word list (e.g., crunchy leaves, crisp air, pumpkin spice, bonfires). Have them choose at least five words that stand out to them and write them down.
- Descriptive Paragraph: Using the chosen sensory words, instruct the student to write a descriptive paragraph about fall. Encourage them to incorporate as many sensory details as possible, painting a vivid picture with their words. Remind them to use proper sentence structure and punctuation.
- Editing and Revising: After completing the paragraph, have the student review their work for any errors or areas that could be improved. Encourage them to make revisions and edits to enhance the clarity and flow of their writing.
