By the end of this lesson, Brodi will enhance his understanding of literary devices, improve his creative writing skills, and develop a greater appreciation for storytelling through engaging activities that stimulate his imagination and critical thinking.
Materials and Prep
- Notebook or journal for writing
- Writing utensils (pens, pencils, markers)
- Access to a comfortable space for reading and writing
- Familiarity with basic literary devices (metaphor, simile, personification, etc.)
- Time set aside for reading and writing activities
Activities
-
Literary Device Scavenger Hunt
Brodi will create a list of common literary devices and then find examples of each in a book or poem he enjoys. This will help him recognize how authors use these devices to enhance their writing.
-
Creative Writing Prompt
Using a random word generator or a list of interesting prompts, Brodi will write a short story or poem incorporating at least three literary devices. This will encourage him to apply what he learned in a fun and creative way.
-
Storytelling Circle
Brodi will narrate his short story to a family member or friend. This activity will improve his verbal storytelling skills and allow him to receive feedback on his work.
