Objective

By the end of this lesson, Mahrley will understand how ocean water affects our health and wellbeing. She will learn about the benefits of saltwater, the importance of oceans to our planet, and how water can help us feel better physically and mentally.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or crayons
  • A small bowl of saltwater (make sure it's safe to use)
  • A glass of fresh water
  • A towel for any spills

Before the lesson, make sure the saltwater is prepared. Talk to Mahrley about the ocean and its importance to our planet. Ensure she knows that this lesson will be fun and interactive!

Activities

  • Ocean Art: Mahrley will draw a picture of the ocean, including creatures and plants. She can use her imagination to create a colorful underwater scene.

  • Saltwater vs. Freshwater Experiment: Mahrley will dip her fingers in both saltwater and fresh water. She can describe how each feels and discuss why saltwater is different from freshwater.

  • Ocean Benefits Discussion: Mahrley will share what she knows about the ocean and its benefits. This can include talking about how it helps us breathe, provides food, and even makes us feel relaxed.
