Objective

By the end of this lesson, Ily will have created her very own TV show, complete with unique characters, an exciting plot, and a fun storyline. She will learn how to use her imagination to bring her ideas to life and understand the basics of storytelling in television.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or colored markers
  • Imagination!

Before the lesson, it would be helpful for Ily to think about some of her favorite TV shows or movies. This will inspire her as she creates her own show!

Activities

  • Character Creation

Ily will draw and describe her main characters. She can think about what they look like, their names, and what makes them special or funny. This will help her understand how characters add to the story.

  • Plot Planning

Ily will come up with a simple plot for her show. She can write down the beginning, middle, and end of her story. This activity will teach her how to structure a story.

  • Storyboarding

Ily will create a storyboard with pictures or sketches of key scenes from her show. This will help her visualize how her story unfolds and understand the flow of the show.

  • Show Title and Tagline

Ily will think of a catchy title for her show and a fun tagline that describes what it's about. This will help her learn how to market her show to an audience!

Talking Points

  • "What do you think makes a character interesting? Is it their looks, their personality, or something else?"
  • "Every good story has a beginning, middle, and end! Can you tell me what happens in each part of your show?"
  • "Why do you think storyboards are important? How do they help you see your show before it’s made?"
  • "What makes a title catchy? Can you think of a fun title that makes people want to watch your show?"
  • "How do you want your audience to feel when they watch your show? Happy, excited, or maybe a little scared?"
  • "Think about your favorite TV show. What do you love most about it? Can you add something similar to your show?"
  • "Creating a show is like being a director! What do you think a director does?"
