Objective
By the end of this lesson, Spencer will create a Super Mario-themed scene using Legos, enhancing his creativity, fine motor skills, and understanding of storytelling through play.
Materials and Prep
- Assorted Lego bricks (various colors and sizes)
- Super Mario character figures (if available) or Lego figures that can represent Mario and friends
- A flat Lego baseplate to build on
- Optional: Printed images of Super Mario characters and items for inspiration
Before the lesson, make sure all Lego pieces are clean and sorted for easy access. Familiarize yourself with some Super Mario characters and their special items to help guide Spencer during the activities.
Activities
- Building Mario's World:
Spencer will use the Legos to create a scene from the Super Mario universe. He can include elements like castles, pipes, and enemies. Encourage him to think about what Mario would encounter in his adventure!
- Character Creation:
Spencer can design his own Super Mario character using the Lego bricks. He can mix and match pieces to create a unique character that could join Mario on his adventures. Ask him to think of a name and special powers for his character!
- Storytime with Legos:
Once Spencer has built his scene, he can tell a story about Mario's adventure in his Lego world. He can act out the story using the figures and describe what happens step by step. This will help him practice storytelling and imagination!
