Objective

By the end of this lesson, Sadie will understand the various aspects of farm life at Big Goose Farm, including the animals that live there, their roles, and the importance of farms in our daily lives. She will also engage in fun activities that enhance her learning experience.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • A notebook or journal for writing
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)
  • Space for activities (inside or outside)

Before the lesson, it would be helpful to gather some pictures or videos of Big Goose Farm if possible, to provide a visual reference for Sadie.

Activities

  • Farm Animal Exploration: Sadie can draw her favorite farm animal and write a few facts about it. She can research what the animal eats, where it sleeps, and its role on the farm.
  • Goose Parade: Create a fun obstacle course in your yard or living room. Sadie can pretend to be a goose waddling through the course, learning how geese move and behave.
  • Farm Journal: Start a farm journal where Sadie can write daily entries about what she imagines life is like on Big Goose Farm. Encourage her to include stories about the animals and the farmer.
  • Farm-to-Table Recipe: Choose a simple recipe that uses ingredients found on a farm (like eggs or vegetables). Sadie can help prepare the meal while learning where the ingredients come from.

Talking Points

  • What is a farm? "A farm is a place where food is grown and animals are raised. Can you name some foods that come from farms?"
  • Who lives on the farm? "Big Goose Farm has many animals like geese, cows, and chickens. What animal do you think would be the most fun to take care of?"
  • Why are farms important? "Farms provide us with the food we eat every day. Without farms, we wouldn't have fresh fruits, vegetables, or meat!"
  • What do geese do on the farm? "Geese can help keep the grass trimmed and can even eat pests. Did you know they also make a lot of noise?"
  • How do farmers take care of animals? "Farmers feed, water, and keep the animals safe. What do you think is the hardest part of taking care of animals?"
  • What is a day like on a farm? "A farmer's day starts early! They have to check on the animals and crops. What do you think they do first?"
  • What do you want to learn about farms? "Is there something specific about Big Goose Farm that you're curious about? Maybe we can find out together!"
  • Can we visit a farm? "Visiting a farm can be a fun way to learn! Would you like to see the animals in person?"
  • How can we help farms? "We can support farms by buying local produce. Do you know where we can find local farms?"
  • What was your favorite part of the lesson? "At the end, I want to hear what you enjoyed the most. Was it the drawing, the obstacle course, or maybe the recipe?"
