Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and count different types of boats while also learning about basic shapes and sizes related to boats.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are needed for this lesson; we will use our imagination!
  • Before the lesson, think of different types of boats and their shapes (e.g., sailboats, speedboats, rowboats).
  • Prepare to engage the student with fun storytelling and imaginative play.

Activities

  • Boat Shapes

Start by drawing simple shapes in the air with your finger. Ask the student to identify these shapes and relate them to boats. For example, a triangle for a sail and a rectangle for the boat's body.

  • Count the Boats

Use your fingers to represent different boats. Count how many fingers you have up and create a story about those boats going on an adventure together.

  • Boat Movement

Imitate how different boats move. For example, sway side to side like a sailboat or zoom around like a speedboat. Encourage the student to join in and mimic the movements.

Talking Points

  • "What shape do you think a sail is? Can you make a triangle with your hands?"
  • "How many boats do we have? Let’s count them together! One, two, three!"
  • "Can you pretend to be a boat? How does a sailboat move? Let’s sway like the waves!"
