Objective

By the end of this lesson, Willow will understand the basics of what it takes to be a YouTuber, including content creation, audience engagement, and the importance of branding. She will also create a simple video concept that reflects her interests.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen for brainstorming and notes
  • Access to a camera or smartphone for video recording (if available)
  • Access to a computer or tablet for video editing (if available)
  • A quiet space to record and brainstorm
  • Familiarity with YouTube and favorite YouTubers for inspiration

Activities

  • Brainstorming Session: Start by discussing Willow's favorite YouTubers. What do they do that she enjoys? This will help her identify her own interests and style.

  • Create a Video Concept: Willow will outline a concept for her own video. This includes the topic, target audience, and what makes her video unique. Encourage her to think creatively!

  • Script Writing: Help Willow draft a simple script for her video. This will include an introduction, main points, and a conclusion. Remind her to keep it fun and engaging!

  • Filming Practice: If possible, let Willow practice filming a short introduction. This will help her become comfortable in front of the camera and develop her on-screen presence.

  • Feedback Session: After filming, watch the video together (if recorded). Discuss what she liked and what could be improved. This will help her learn about self-critique and growth.

Talking Points

  • "What do you think makes a YouTuber interesting? Is it their personality, the topics they cover, or how they connect with their audience?"
  • "Why is it important to have a unique style or theme for your channel? Think about what makes you different!"
  • "How can you engage with your audience? Maybe by asking questions or encouraging them to comment?"
  • "What do you enjoy most about watching YouTube? Let’s use that to inspire your video!"
  • "Remember that practice makes perfect! The more you film, the more comfortable you'll become."
