Materials and Prep
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Colored pencils or markers
- Blank paper
- Reference images of horses
- Access to a computer or library for research (optional)
Before starting the lesson, the student should have a basic understanding of horse anatomy and be familiar with different horse breeds.
Activities
- Begin by discussing different horse breeds and their characteristics. Encourage the student to share any knowledge or experiences they have with horses.
- Guide the student in selecting a reference image of a horse they would like to draw. They can either use their own photo or find one online or in a book.
- Instruct the student to lightly sketch the basic shapes and proportions of the horse using a pencil. Emphasize the importance of observation and accuracy.
- Once the basic sketch is complete, encourage the student to add details and refine their drawing. They can use colored pencils or markers to add color and texture to their artwork.
- Provide guidance and feedback as the student works on their artwork. Encourage them to experiment with different techniques and shading to bring their horse to life.
- Once the artwork is finished, have the student share and discuss their creation. Ask them to explain their artistic choices and what they learned throughout the process.
