Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name the letters A to Z, understand the sounds they make, and identify words that start with each letter.

Materials and Prep

  • No additional materials are needed; everything can be done verbally and through interaction.
  • Prepare to engage the student with enthusiasm and creativity.

Activities

  • Alphabet Song:

Start the lesson by singing the ABC song together. This will help the student become familiar with the order of the letters and make learning fun!

  • Letter Sounds Game:

Say a letter and ask the student to repeat the sound it makes. For example, say "A" and encourage them to say "Aaaa." Make it a game by asking them to think of words that start with that letter.

  • Letter Hunt:

Go on a letter hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that start with specific letters, like "B for ball" or "C for cat."

  • Story Time:

Read a short story together that includes many letters of the alphabet. Pause to point out the letters and ask the student to identify them.

  • Letter Art:

Use your imagination to create letters with your bodies. For example, make an "A" by standing with your arms up and legs apart. This will help them remember the shape of the letters!

Talking Points

  • "Do you know what the first letter of the alphabet is? It's A! Can you say Aaaa?"
  • "Each letter has its own special sound. Let's listen to the sound of B! It goes Bbbb. Can you think of a word that starts with B?"
  • "Look around! Can you find something that starts with the letter C? What about a cat?"
  • "When we read stories, we see lots of letters. Let's find some letters in this book together!"
  • "Can you make the letter E with your arms? Great job! You are a letter artist!"
