Objective

By the end of this lesson, Lindsay will understand the various functions and roles of hardware used in producing promotional products and stationery. She will also learn about the safe handling and usage of these tools, enabling her to confidently create her own promotional items and gifts.

Materials and Prep

  • Assorted paper types (cardstock, regular paper, etc.)
  • Basic drawing tools (pencils, markers, etc.)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Access to a computer with design software (optional)
  • Safety guidelines for handling tools
  • Notebook for notes and sketches

Before the lesson, ensure that all materials are gathered and that Lindsay understands the safety guidelines for using scissors and other tools.

Activities

  • Hardware Exploration:

    Lindsay will explore different types of hardware used in promotional product creation, such as printers, cutting machines, and heat presses. She will learn their functions and how to use them safely.

  • Design Your Own Product:

    Lindsay will design her own promotional product or stationery item using the materials provided. She can sketch her ideas first and then create a prototype using paper and drawing tools.

  • Safety First:

    A discussion on the importance of safety when handling tools. Lindsay will list the safety measures she needs to follow while using scissors and other equipment.

  • Show and Tell:

    At the end of the lesson, Lindsay will present her designed product to a family member or friend, explaining the hardware used and the process she followed to create it.
