Objective

Materials and Prep

Before the lesson, ensure that the student understands basic safety precautions when handling tools and working with electronics.

Activities

  • Tool Identification Challenge:

    Present the student with images or actual tools and have them identify each tool and its primary use. This can be made into a game by timing how quickly they can name each tool correctly!

  • Classification Sorting:

    Provide a selection of tools and ask the student to categorize them into groups based on their function (e.g., cutting, gripping, fastening). This will help them understand the different classifications of tools.

  • Hands-On Practice:

    If possible, allow the student to practice using some of the tools. For example, they can practice using a soldering iron on a simple circuit board or cutting wires with wire cutters. This will reinforce their understanding of each tool's purpose.

  • Reflection Discussion:

    At the end of the lesson, engage the student in a discussion about why it is important to know the correct tool for each job. Ask them how they would feel if they used the wrong tool for a task.
