Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze a character from a book and select an appropriate actor to portray that character in a TV adaptation. The student will understand the qualities that make an actor suitable for a role and how to match those qualities with the character's traits.
Materials and Prep
- Notebook and pen for notes
- Access to a list of popular books and their adaptations
- Familiarity with a range of actors and their previous roles
- Basic understanding of character analysis (traits, motivations, etc.)
Activities
-
Character Analysis: The student will choose a character from a book they enjoy and write a brief character analysis. This should include the character's traits, motivations, and key moments in the story that define them.
-
Actor Research: The student will research at least three actors who could potentially play the chosen character. They should consider the actors' previous roles, acting styles, and public personas.
-
Mock Audition: The student will conduct a mock audition for their chosen character. They can either perform a scene as the character or present their case for why their selected actor would be perfect for the role.
-
Discussion and Feedback: After the mock audition, the student will discuss their choices with a family member or friend, explaining why they believe the actor is a great fit and receiving feedback on their analysis.
