Objective

By the end of this lesson, Nadia will be able to understand and apply basic English and Math concepts while incorporating a fun cooking activity. She will learn how to follow a recipe, measure ingredients, and use descriptive language to enhance her writing skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Sticky Lemon and Thyme Chicken recipe (printed or written out)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Notebook and pencil for writing
  • Cooking utensils (e.g., mixing bowl, baking dish)
  • Access to a kitchen for cooking

Before the lesson, ensure that all ingredients for the recipe are gathered and that Nadia understands basic cooking safety. Review the recipe together to familiarize her with the steps involved.

Activities

  • Recipe Reading and Vocabulary Building

    Nadia will read through the Sticky Lemon and Thyme Chicken recipe, highlighting any unfamiliar words. Together, you will discuss their meanings and write sentences using those words to enhance her vocabulary.

  • Math Measurement Challenge

    Nadia will measure out the ingredients for the recipe using measuring cups and spoons. This activity will reinforce her understanding of fractions and volume, as she calculates the amounts needed for each ingredient.

  • Cooking and Writing Description

    As Nadia cooks the chicken, she will take notes on the process and how the ingredients change during cooking. Afterward, she will write a descriptive paragraph about her experience, focusing on sensory details like taste, smell, and texture.
