Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil for writing down the recipe and notes
  • Measuring cups and spoons (if available, otherwise use standard kitchen items)
  • Ingredients for chicken fajitas: chicken breast, bell peppers, onions, tortillas, spices (like cumin and chili powder), and oil
  • Access to a stove or grill for cooking
  • Basic knowledge of cooking safety and hygiene

Activities

  1. Vocabulary Building:

Nadia will learn key cooking vocabulary related to chicken fajitas, such as "sauté," "dice," "marinate," and "garnish." She can create flashcards with the words and their definitions.

  2. Recipe Reading:

Nadia will read a simple chicken fajita recipe aloud. This activity will help her practice reading comprehension and pronunciation. She can highlight any new words she encounters.

  3. Measurement Math:

Nadia will practice her math skills by measuring ingredients. For example, she can measure 1 cup of bell peppers or 2 tablespoons of oil. This will reinforce her understanding of fractions and volume.

  4. Cooking Activity:

With supervision, Nadia will prepare and cook the chicken fajitas. She will follow the recipe step-by-step, which will help her develop her ability to follow directions and understand the cooking process.

  5. Reflection and Tasting:

After cooking, Nadia will reflect on the process by answering questions about what she learned and how she felt about the cooking experience. Finally, she can enjoy her homemade chicken fajitas!
