Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to effectively interact with others by practicing social skills, understanding body language, and engaging in meaningful conversations. The student will also learn how to express themselves clearly and confidently in social situations.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are needed for this lesson.
- Be prepared to engage in conversations and role-play scenarios.
- Have a comfortable space for discussions and activities.
Activities
-
Role-Playing Conversations:
Choose a few different scenarios (like meeting a new friend, asking for help, or sharing an opinion) and role-play them. This will help the student practice initiating conversations and responding to others.
-
Body Language Charades:
Play a game where the student has to communicate a feeling or action using only body language. This will help them understand how non-verbal cues play a vital role in interactions.
-
Compliment Circle:
Practice giving and receiving compliments. The student can take turns giving compliments to you (or even to a mirror) and discussing how it feels to both give and receive positive feedback.
-
Conversation Starters:
Create a list of fun conversation starters (e.g., "If you could have any superpower, what would it be?"). Take turns asking and answering these questions to build confidence in starting conversations.
Talking Points
- "Did you know that over 90% of communication is non-verbal? That means our body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice are super important!"
- "When you meet someone new, a smile can go a long way! It shows that you are friendly and open to talking."
- "Asking open-ended questions, like 'What do you think about...' helps keep the conversation going and shows you are interested!"
- "Remember, it's okay to pause and think before you speak. Taking your time can help you say what you really mean!"
- "Listening is just as important as talking. Make sure to pay attention to what others are saying; it shows you care!"
- "Practice makes perfect! The more you talk to people, the easier it will become to interact confidently."
